As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t usually put a great deal of conscious thought into what books I’m going to read for this series, unless, for example, a friend or trusted reviewer makes a specific recommendation. Most times, I simply browse through whatever is available to read for free on Kindle Unlimited that has a … More Books: Intercepts by T.J. Payne
If any of you guys are fans of “killer kid” horror, then you’ve probably heard of the book Baby Teeth, which was Zoje Stage’s debut novel and got all sorts of positive buzz when it was released in the summer of 2018. I noticed from a quick perusal of reviews that it seemed somewhat polarizing … More Books: Baby Teeth by Zoje Stage
Ever since bursting onto the world stage with his surrealistic debut feature Pi in 1997, director Darren Aronofsky has been seen as a somewhat provocative filmmaker, but I don’t remember any of his movies drawing the controversy, and in some cases even passionate hatred, as his 2017 film mother! did. I had been hearing wildly … More Movies: mother! (2017)
On the second installment of this potentially very long-running series (the first installment is here), I’m discussing 1973, which was an absolutely cracking year for iconic horror movies. The phenomenal British film Séance on a Wet Afternoon is an absolute marvel of atmospheric mood and incredible psychological depth. It’s not a horror movie per se, but it is … More Movies: Séance on a Wet Afternoon (1964)
Bob Clark was in interesting filmmaker; though he was born in the United States, he did most of his iconic work in Canada, and his directorial resume is all over the map, comprising horror cult classics like Black Christmas and Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things, beloved 1980s comedies like Porky’s and A Christmas Story, … More Movies: Deathdream (1974)
I had only heard of the author Sara Gran peripherally, mentioned on a few other book review channels I watch, so when I came across her novella Come Closer, I wasn’t really aware of: one, how old it was, and two, how it had had something of a resurgence in popularity more recently, following the … More Books: Come Closer by Sara Gran

The book came out in her home country in 2008 and was a nationwide sensation, at which point it was translated into numerous languages and eventually earned worldwide acclaim. Welcome back to the Salon, and welcome to what will (hopefully) be the first in a long series, the idea for which came to me in a flash of inspiration not too long ago. Basically, I’m going to go through lists of all the horror films that came out every year since I was born, … More My Favorite Horror Movies from Every Year Since I Was Born: 1972
Upon reading the synopsis of Gemma Files’s 2015 novel Experimental Film, I became immediately intrigued, as the premise deals with a mystery surrounding a supposedly cursed movie, and the “cursed movie” trope is one of my favorites in all of horror. I was thinking that maybe this would be something along the lines of John … More Books: Experimental Film by Gemma Files
