I can’t remember exactly how I first heard about the 2021 film Broadcast Signal Intrusion, but the title must have stuck in my mind, because as soon as I saw it pop up in the “Free To Me” section of Amazon Prime, I felt compelled to watch it. At first, I thought maybe I’d run … More Movies: Broadcast Signal Intrusion (2021)
Although I can think of several horror films that are set in Wales, helmed by Welsh directors, or were filmed there (such as A Dark Song, Saint Maud, and Censor, all of which I’ve reviewed at one point or another), I can’t remember if I’ve ever seen a horror movie that was filmed entirely in … More Movies: The Feast (aka Gwledd) (2021)
Many horror lovers will be familiar with the work of English screenwriter and director Ben Wheatley; I’m personally a big fan of his previous films Kill List from 2011, and A Field in England from 2013. He’s gone on to do more bigger-budget action and comedy films in the years since, and his upcoming project … More Movies: In The Earth (2021)
Scott Smith has only published a couple of novels in his writing career, but luckily for him (and us), they’re both fantastic. I read and reviewed his 2006 novel The Ruins not too long ago (he also wrote the screenplay for the solid 2008 film adaptation), but I had never read his debut, the 1993 … More Books: A Simple Plan by Scott Smith
Those who grew up in the UK in the early-to-mid 1980s no doubt remember the whole “video nasties” kerfuffle. Though I grew up in the United States, I was a kid during that same era, and as I was a total Anglophile as well as a horror fan, I was fairly aware of what was … More Movies: Censor (2021)
Billed as a scifi horror, but really more akin to a waking nightmare, the Canadian film Come True had its debut at the 2020 Fantasia Film Festival, and went on to become one of the most divisive horror films of the year. While some found it slow and pretentious, with an ending that seemingly negated … More Movies: Come True (2020)
I came across Patrick Reuman’s 2022 novel The Adirondack Witch during a random scroll through my Kindle Unlimited recommendations, and because I love stories about witches, I checked it out and jumped right in. While I enjoyed it overall, and it was fairly well-written with some creepy, lost-in-the-woods vibes, I had a couple issues with … More Books: The Adirondack Witch by Patrick Reuman
After seeing the 2022 reboot of Firestarter not too long ago, I remembered that it was only the second feature film from director Keith Thomas, and I also remembered that Thomas’s feature film debut, The Vigil, caused a slight buzz when it premiered at the Toronto Film Festival back in 2019. I was curious to … More Movies: The Vigil (2019)
French director and screenwriter Julia Ducournau burst upon the horror landscape back in 2016 with her excellent, cannibalistic coming of age film Raw, and it’s safe to say that fans of that movie (like me) were eagerly waiting to see what her next project would be. And I’m happy to report that Ducournau really outdid … More Movies: Titane (2021)
I had been hearing a lot of buzz about the Taiwanese film The Sadness since its international premiere back in autumn of 2021, and most of said buzz revolved around noting what an absolutely brutal bloodbath the film is. Well, now I’ve seen it, courtesy of Shudder, and I can confirm that The Sadness is … More Movies: The Sadness (2021)
