Since I was already midway through my journey into discussing the classic early 1960s anthology series Thriller, hosted by Boris Karloff, I thought now would be a wonderfully opportune time to make even more work for myself and start talking about another beloved anthology series, one that I adored as a kid and have watched … More Revisiting Night Gallery with Rod Serling: Pilot Episode, 1969
I haven’t seen all of the Coen brothers’ films, but every single one I’ve seen has been uniquely wonderful in its own right, so it was with some measure of excitement that I decided to revisit their debut feature film, 1984’s Blood Simple. I had seen it once back in the 1990s and remembered liking … More Movies: Blood Simple (1984)
Back when I still had an AMC Stubs membership (which I had to cancel because I couldn’t really afford it anymore and I moved way farther away from the movie theater anyway so could never go), I must have seen the trailer for The Black Phone every single time I went to the movies. It … More Movies: The Black Phone (2021)

I remember seeing a bunch of other book reviewers over the past year or so discussing Camilla Sten’s acclaimed 2021 novel The Lost Village, and although reviews seemed mixed (but tending toward the positive), the premise sounded intriguing, so I finally sat my ass down and read the thing. And I ended up liking it … More Books: The Lost Village by Camilla Sten
I feel as though I’ve spoken before about how Canadian horror films tend to be ever so slightly underrated or underseen, with the possible exception of David Cronenberg’s films, obviously. But especially in regards to the slasher subgenre, Canada has been somewhat ahead of the curve, not only being responsible for one of the very … More Movies: Happy Birthday To Me (1981)
2008’s Martyrs is one of those movies whose reputation unquestionably precedes it, and though I always felt like it was something I needed to watch, every time I went to place it on the review schedule, I would chicken out and watch something less notorious. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve watched plenty of fucked-up movies, … More Movies: Martyrs (2008)
1979 was another hell of a year for amazing horror, giving us everything from what is easily one of the best sci-fi horror movies ever made to a bizarre and original new franchise starter; from a coldly grotesque body horror epic to a gut-munching gore masterpiece; from two stellar but very different adaptations of the … More My Favorite Horror Movies from Every Year Since I Was Born: 1979
I feel as though the term “elevated horror” has been thrown around quite a bit in the last decade or so, but obviously, anyone who knows anything about horror knows that it isn’t really a new phenomenon; “arthouse” style horror has existed probably as long as the genre itself has. In my opinion, in fact, … More Movies: Possession (1981)
At the end of November of 2022, an author named Alan Golbourn contacted me and offered to send me a couple of his novels for review, and of course I accepted, because free books are one of my very favorite things. I regret that it’s taken me this long to get around to reading one … More Books: The 666 Murders by Alan Golbourn
